If Derek wants to sign his contract extension, then everything would be great and we could just get on with things. That has always been the case. I have always said that the best-case scenario for us and Derek is that he signs his contract extension and concentrates on his football and scoring goals until somebody that he is happy with comes in with the right money for him.

I don't take anything out of it personally because as a coach I know what will happen if we lose the next couple of games.

If he is to last 90 minutes he must learn when to run, when to pass and when to hold the ball. It's been a fairytale two weeks for him and it is up to me to keep his feet on the ground.

I have to say I am a bit surprised at how quickly Gary has returned but that is all credit to him. He has shown a determination from day one to get himself back, that was evident when I went to see him in hospital the night he suffered his injury. I've already said that everyone in the squad will likely participate at some stage over the next three or four weeks, I'm pretty sure of that, so to have another body available certainly does help us.

I know Ian Westwater has been to see me play for Raith and I am sure the gaffer will be asking Gordon Dalziel how I am doing on a regular basis.
